EXCITING BADMINTON - HOW CAN YOU PLAY IT? WHAT DO YOU NEED?

2024-08-09

Badminton can be played almost anywhere. A court for playing badminton be organised on a school field, in a park or in other municipal recreational areas. It is an Olympic sport that has easy-to-learn rules and which already children at primary schools enjoy playing. We explain how to play badminton and what is needed to play the sport.

BADMINTON - WHERE DID THIS SPORT ORIGINATE?

To say that human civilisations have always known badminton is not a big exaggeration. This game - in slightly different forms - was even played by the Aztecs and the ancient Chinese. It was also popular in Poland, especially during the reign of August III the Saxon. However, the modern version of badminton is believed to have originated in Europe in the 19th century, with the first matches played in a village called Badminton owned by an English aristocrat. The sport only became an Olympic discipline in 1992.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PLAYING BADMINTON?

It is definitely a good idea to encourage both children and adults to play badminton. Hitting a light shuttlecock is, counter-intuitively, just as (and sometimes more!) demanding as tennis. During a badminton match, a player makes around 400 racket strikes and up to twice as many moves as a tennis player.

The sport allows for an intensive, all-round workout for the entire body. Badminton practice:

helps to exercise almost all parts of the body - by running towards the shuttlecock and braking to hit it, the buttock muscles are engaged. Hitting with a racquet helps exercise the shoulders, forearms and wrists. During long exchanges, the abdominal muscles that stabilise the figure are also engaged;

• this is a way to get a demanding cardio workout - badminton is a dynamic, intense sport requiring frequent, short sprints towards the shuttlecock;

helps to lose weight - up to 450 kcal can be burned in one hour of moderately intense play;

exercises reflexes - sometimes the shuttlecocks come down slowly and in an arc, and other times they are played quickly and at an angle by the opponent. As a result, playing badminton teaches reflexes and alertness.

BADMINTON - RULES OF THE GAME

The aim of the game is to hit the shuttlecock in such a way that it flies over the net and that the opponent is unable to hit it back. The match is played until one player wins two sets - there is a maximum of three sets. In order to win a set, you must score 21 points and have a minimum two-point advantage over your opponent in the process. The exception is a 29:29 draw. Then the person who scores the 30th point wins the set.

The game and the exchange of the shuttlecock begins with the service by one of the players. It is performed from the service area. The shuttlecock is always served diagonally. If it touches the net, falls on the opponent’s side of the court, and the opponent does not pick it up, one point is won by the serving player. On the other hand, when the shuttlecock touches the net but falls on the serving player’s field, the receiving player wins a point.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO PLAY BADMINTON?

If a badminton court is to be included in a sports facility or you are setting up a badminton court, start by choosing good posts.

MOVABLE BADMINTON POSTS ON WHEELS WITH A PROFESSIONAL WEIGHT
These posts are made from powder-coated steel profiles, which makes them robust. They have wheels that make them easy to transport and move around the sports hall or outdoor field. The tensioning of the net is facilitated by the roll installed in them. On the other hand, infinite height adjustment is possible thanks to an extendable foot.

Immediately after the posts, a suitable net should appear on the badminton court.

TOURNAMENT BADMINTON NET

TOURNAMENT BADMINTON NET - made of strong polypropylene

This robust net is trimmed with reinforcing tape. Its strong weave and 18x18 mm mesh make it capable of stopping the strongest shuttlecock strikes. It is made in accordance with the IBF standard and can therefore also be used in tournaments.

When the court is ready, take care of your badminton set - with good racquets as its essential element.

FIT ONE BADMINTON SET

FIT ONE BADMINTON SET - for two people

These rockets are made of aluminium. This makes them robust and very lightweight at the same time. A secure grip on these racquets is ensured by their plastic finish.

Players should also be provided with a set of shuttlecocks - preferably ones made of feathers.

AIR PRO FEATHER SHUTTLECOCKS

AIR PRO FEATHER SHUTTLECOCKS - for professionals and amateurs

These feather shuttlecocks are distinguished by their excellent flying characteristics, and when hitting them, their flight trajectory can be predicted more easily than in the case of plastic models. In addition, they are finished with rubber, which allows them to dynamically bounce off the racquet net. Shuttlecocks made of high-quality plastic will also work well for recreational play. The material they are made of makes them resistant to damage - they will serve well during many amateur games.

A badminton court can be set up in a gymnasium or in a neighbourhood or municipal sports facility. It does not take much to do so, and the joy of the game, experienced by children, young people, and adults alike, is guaranteed. Remember, however, that shuttlecocks reach high speeds during play - so choose high-quality racquets, net and posts.
